The Psalmist Window - Chapel

Home Pictures

The Psalmist Window was given to the church in 1950 in memory of Mr. Harry F. Racine.  "Praise Ye the Lord" is the theme taken from the Old Testament Psalms and musical instruments of the Bible are depicted.

The instruments are, starting at the top and going counter-clockwise:

The Harp - A stringed instrument of 10 to 12 strings, the harp was an instrument of aristocracy.

The Lyre - The instrument of David and the Levitical priests, with from 3 to 12 strings, the lyre was the most popular instrument.

The Lute - Usually with 3 strings, the lute was not a temple instrument and was usually played by women.

The flute and Trumpet - The flute, often translated as pipe (RSV) or organ (KJV) was an instrument of the common people.  The trumpet was usually used as a signal device for battle or for worship.
