Joseph Cisar, Music Director at First Baptist Church of LaGrange, serves as organist, pianist, and choir director. A Chicago native and Lyons Township High School graduate, he earned the Bachelors and Masters of Music degrees a well as the Performer’s Certificate from the Indiana University School of Music.
He received critical acclaim on his Chicago Orchestra Hall debut. Past performances include two tours with Leonard Bernstein through Israel and Europe. He has been featured soloist in numerous performances with orchestra, and has presented of both books of the Chopin Etudes in performance and lecture recitals across America demonstrating the technical aspects of the studies in their entirety.
Study in New York with master teacher German Diez joins him to an impressive pedagogical line. Mr. Cisar continues a tradition of pedagogical lineage linking him to Claudio Arrau, Martin Krause, Franz Liszt, Carl Czerny and finally to Beethoven.
Throughout his musical career, Mr. Cisar has always been active in church music. He performs many musical styles. In addition to classical music he is an avid jazz proponent and teacher.
A past Guest Lecturer at Wheaton College Conservatory of Music and current faculty member of the College’s Community School of the Arts, Mr. Cisar is an inspiring and dedicated educator teaching and encouraging musicians of all ages.
He is married to his wife Paula, who holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice from Hastings College. They live in Berwyn.
